Amyloid Biology

Aggregation of proteins and peptides into toxic amyloid structures is a critical biological event that leads to the onset of several pathological conditions including Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, etc.  This decade has observed an upsurge in the prevalence of more than 50 amyloidogenic diseases. We will be working to gain a mechanistic understanding of the protein aggregation process, including its structural insights, and apply this fundamental knowledge to study the molecular events in protein aggregation and its pathology in neurodegenerative diseases.
